I came. I saw. I ate.  Okay, thats a little melodramatic as I only ate one thing at World Fest 2011.  Unfortunately I had to split to go see Bridesmaids (Well, not unfortunately because that movie is HILARIOUS) so I was only able to grab one thing.  So obviously I got a vegan strawberry funnel cake because, you know, go big or go home.  Or as QuarryGirl said so eloquently in her far superior WorldFest coverage, I have “mad sweet tooth.”  Oh so true.

Anyway, since this was the first thing I’d eaten that morning after only a few bites I started to feel sick.  Sick with sugary goodness, but sick never the less.  So I wasn’t able to finish it, although this picture makes me want to reach through the computer (and time) and finish it off.

Besides the funnel cake, there were tons of other booths including one for the sisters from Spork Foods.  They gave me the heads up that they’re releasing a cook book later this year!  If you haven’t taken a vegan cooking class with Chef Jenny you’re missing out.

After my quick tour of the fest, I was called over to the Luscious Desserts booth and given a whole handful of goodies.  It was like Christmas!  Or, more like Halloween.  Because they were giving us candy… Well, here’s a quick shot of the loot:

Vegan ding dongs (peanut butter filled!), chocolates, chocolate covered cookie dough balls, peanut crunch bars and tea cookies. While all of these were delicious, the cookie dough balls were ridiculous.  I mean…. ridiculous.  Just take my word for it and get some of these… because don’t forget my “mad sweet tooth”

I had a great time on Friday at the grand opening for the new Spork Foods space in West Hollywood.  Definitely saw a lot of familiar faces and got to hang with my fav vegan blogger buddy QG (her photos of the party are WAY better than mine probably because I was too busy stuffing my face)!  Chef Jenny Goldberg and her sister/business partner Heather looked beautiful, and the appetizers/drinks of course were amazing. Rory Freedman of Skinny Bitch fame was also in attendance, and in fact hosted the party.

It got packed and hot, thankfully there were some amazing beverages including a white wine sangria and some kind of blueberry cocktail that was out of this world. I hope Spork adds a cocktail class into the schedule, that’s for sure.  There were a bunch of savory dips and nibbles, but obviously, I went straight for the sweets, including tiny vanilla spiced cupcakes with chocolate frosting, and melt-in-your-mouth truffles that were insanely good.  Seriously, I MUST attend that chocolate making class and learn those secrets.  The possibilities of being able to make my own truffles are endless.  And frightening.

Anyway, the new space is AWESOME and decorated totally cute with a little sitting area, chandelier, and of course, a GIANT new kitchen!  For those of us who have taken Spork classes from the tiny kitchen of Jenny’s old apartment, this is quite a change.  I can’t wait to take my first class there!

Celebrate the awakening of Spring at Animal Acres’ Eggless Easter Special Tour Day on Sunday, April 4th.

Watch special presentations and greet the animal friends throughout the day! Barn doors are open from 11 am to 3 pm. Enjoy a vegan sweets bake sale, and all participants who bring a vegan baked goodie or sweet to share (no dairy, honey, eggs, or other animal products) will receive FREE admission to the event! Head over to Animal Acres on November 21st at noon for their annual Thankful Turkey Celebration. The festivities will start off with farm tours of the sanctuary and time to meet the sanctuary cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals, while hearing about their heartwarming rescue stories. At 1:30 pm everyone will gather for the “Feed the Turkeys” Ceremony where it’s the turkeys turn to enjoy salad, pumpkin pie and stuffed squash! After the feathered friends are full and happy, the humans will enjoy a mouth-watering vegan Thanksgiving dinner including “veggie turkey”and classic stuffing, mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, hearty autumn vegetables, orange cranberry sauce, and holiday pie. Following dinner, Philip Steir, author of the new Vegan Sanctuary blog, will speak.
